ACL Lineup

The lineup this year sucks so bad. They repeated half the bands and replaced the others with some weird ass ones. Good job C3! The only bands/artists that I would go to is Phoenix and Dana Falconberry. Unless I get a free ticket this year, I will be avoiding the fest filled with people who go just for the satisfactory of saying that they went.

Trojan Live

Trojan Live was awesome this year! It was full of very talented kids and I was impressed with each and every one of them. However, there was one singer that really stood out to me, and that would be Daniel (sorry if I spelled his name wrong). He was absolutely amazing! The songs he chose suited his voice perfectly. He had so much range and the fact that he could play the guitar and the piano blew me away. Honestly I don't think think that he needs college when he has amazing talent like that. The one thing that kind of pissed me off about Trojan Live was the audience. They were rude as fuck. I cannot believe some of the things they did. But overall, The talent of those kids was amazing.

Jimmie Buffet

He was playing somewhere in Austin last night and I wanted to go so bad. My dad and I were in the last night driving and he came on the radio and they were just talking to him for like an hour or so and he seems like the coolest, nicest guy ever. He was playing a few song on his acoustic guitar and it was just so fun to listen to. My two all time favorite songs by him are "Margaritaville" (typical) and "Somethin' About a Boat". I cant believe he is like in his 60's and still coming out with new albums! To me, that is so awesome and admirable. I think his music is absolutely perfect to listen to when chilling on the beach. Also, I cannot believe he was actually a surfer! That is so weird considering he sounds like a complete county boy.

Nirvana

Im pretty sure that I have blogged about Nirvana before but whatever we listened to them in class so I will do it again. I love Nirvana and I especially like to listen to them whenever I am pissed off or depressed. They are just so good and Kurt's voice is so powerful and can make you feel all sorts of emotions. I still wonder why he killed himself because he had a pretty damn good life. He was so successful and millions of people loved him and his band. But I do believe that Dave Grohl wouldn't have created the Foo Fighters if he didn't, and I love me some Foo Fighters. I saw them at ACL a few years ago and they were so good! Dave is so funny and just seems like a really cool down-to-earth guy. One of my lifetime dreams would be to meet him (obviously would never happen). But fo realzzz Nirvana is one of my faves.

The beatles

Two of my favorite songs done by The Beatles are yesterday, and for no one. Yesterday was written and performed by paul McCartney. I interpreted the song like he was missing someone from his life that  he had recently lost, because of a decision he had made. For no one, was written by John Lennon and has a darker tone to it. comparing the two, its interesting to see the balance of dark and light. Both songs exhibit signs of lonesomeness or solitude but are expressed in two different sounds, that are both enjoyable.

Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam Rocks my socks off my feet. Lol im funny, just kidding. Anyways......... I grew up listening to pearl jam as a kid when my dad would play it loud in the house. I always loved it and I have been listening to them forever. I probably know every song by them like no joke. As I said in my last blog, Eddie Vedder is on my top three favorite singers of all time list. I also like when he goes solo too. Big Hard Sun is my all-time favorite song I have ever heard him sing. His voice is very calm and soothing and some people say that they cant hear what he is saying half the time but I can. Pearl Jam is awesome. The end.

Nirvana

I love this band. Always have, always will. It was a joy to get to listen to it in class. Kurt Cobain is up there with my favorite singers. I still cant decide who is my favorite out of him, Dave Grohl, and Chris Cornell. Anyways, the video we got to watch was simple, yet it gave you a feel for what seeing them in  concert must have been like. Kurt was really funny too and I thought that it was a little bit strange how he started smoking a cigaret on stage. They played my all time favorites such as Lake of Fire and Lithium. Such great songs and such an awesome band!

Dimelo- Enrique Iglesias

So this blog is kind of going to be out of the ordinary........ This song is one that we listened to in spanish class and now I just cant stop listening to it. The song is about love and telling someone you love them. The reason that I think this song is cool is because A, it is really catchy and B, I can understand most of it. I think its awesome how once I learn a new language, I can kind of feel out the culture musically and be able to know what it means. It is a really cool feeling when I can sing the song and memorize the words in spanish. It is like learning on a whole new level.

Straight Outa Compton

I am so glad we listened to this in class. Not because I like it, but because it made me laugh so hard. Highlight of me week! If you actually listen to the lyrics, you will find that it is quite funny and makes you look stupid for actually liking it. Who the hell makes a song about a crack whore? What has our world come to? Its shit like this that makes me frightened by what my kids are going to grow up with. You can argue all you want about how this is sooo great and all, but it has absolutely no meaning and to me, it is not music. At all.

Paul's Boutique

This album is so great! It is a kind of rap that I can deal with because it has a little bit of rock in it. It is just so different from what I normally listen to, which I like. It is so cool how the Beastie Boys transformed. They went from doing rap type stuff to rock. Everything they have done so far, I have loved. Anyways, I need to get this album ASAP so I can play it on repeat.

Train- Drops of Jupiter

This song is so amazing! I could literally listen to it on repeat and never get tired of it. This was a song that I grew up listening to because it was always one of my mom's favorite songs so my dad would play it in the car a lot so we would hace something to remember her by. So whenever I am missing her I just play this song, cry for a while, and everything is better. I love the lead singer's voice and how the song is slow and the lyrics meaningful (to me at least). Also, listening to the lyrics kind of describes her and how she lived a pretty short life. It says "Did the wind sweep you off your feet? Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day?" and "Did you sail across the sun? Did you make it to the Milkyway to see the lights all faded? And that heaven is overrated."It also says "Did you miss me while you were lookin for yourself out there?" And that to me it means are you missing me in heaven? Just listen to the song. It is absolutely amazing.

U2

I like U2 and I cannot belive that they are still going because they are so old. Their song "Only to be With You" is probably one of my favorites by them. It just sounds really unique vocal wise and the melody is awesome. It is really mezmorizing how bands like this and the Red Hot Chilli Pepers were nothing at first. They are so popular today but when they first came out people thought they were just a band that would come and go. I wonder what made them so popular.

Island In the Sun- Weezer

I love this song so much like its not comprehendable. If you listen to this song when you are actualy in like Padre Island or Hawaii, it is really cool. I think its awesome when the music you are listening to actualy syncs up to the place you are at. Also, I love the carefree vibe that this song gives off and just the awesome vocals. When they played this song at ACL it was really cool to sing along to because it is just a really great song. I love Weezer and I can just never get tired of this song!

Paul Simon- Graceland

This particular singer is not my absolute favorite. It reminds me too much of bluegrass and country music which I do not like at all. It is all over the place in tempo and there is one beat that always stays the same, which irritates me. This is just all around not the kind of music for me.

Steriotypes of music genres

I dont think it is fair to classify people by the kind of music that they listen to. Just because I like reggae, does not mean that I am a stoner. You dont have to be a certain race to like a certain type of genre as well. Like how rap and hip hop are associated with black and mexican people. I just dont get it! Why can't we just let people listen to their music without being judgemental? Music is a form of self expression that is different for everyone. We should stop saying that our music is so great and that other peoples suck. Let people listen to their crap and you listen to yours and then we can all just shut up.

Will Smith- Parent's Just dont Understand

This type of hip hop is the kind that I can actually handle listening to and enjoy. The modern day hip hop only talks about girls, sex, and drugs which I hate. I like this particular song because it tells a story that is clean and that people our age should be listening to instead of Lil Wayne or Drake. Will Smith's music doesnt totaly brainwash teens like all the new generation stuff. It is also catchy and it has a cool party beat.

Snow- Red Hot Chili Peppers

This song have been one of my favorites by them for years. When they played this song at ACL I flipped a shit. This song is timeless and I could never find myself getting tired of it. The lyrics as well as the singing are phenomenal and I really like the drum beats when it starts getting faster. I love this band and pretty much every song that they make. I hope we get around to listening to them more.

More Than Words-Extreme

I am so mesmerized at how I didn't catch what the song was really about until you told us to listen to the lyrics. I think that this song is very well written and it is sang well. However, what it is really about is just gross and I cant belive that people would think that this is a "beautiful love song". We are fed so much crap that we just don't even pay attention to what is being drilled into our brains.

The Police

So The Police are kind of my new music obsession at the time. I had totally forgot about them, and listening to them again made me fall in love all over again. Although some of the song lyrics are a little creepy such as "every step you take I'll be watching you". It made me kind of scared. And the beginning of the blow up doll song made me feel like I was getting mentally raped in my ears. But that is besides the point. The song S.O.S is my jam. It has such a good melody and is so catchy. Also, I just love the lead singers voice. That song is on the game Guitar Hero and I used to master that song on the level hard, just feeling like a complete badass. Good times......

Patty Smith

I have to admit, Patty Smith is not one of the favorite things that we have listened to in class. Her voice just does nothing for me except shoot my ears off. Okay, that may have been a little extreme, but still. Her voice just lacks emotion. For me, it was just bland and the music lacked melody. She just kept repeating melodys and lyrics over and over until I reached my breaking point. I know some people might like her and I respect that, but it just lacks my interest. It didnt really seem like rock to me at all, it seemed just a little too raspy and bluesy. Sure she probably sings better than I do, but she just isnt my favorite. Enough said.

Justin Bieber

So I decided to blog about something I hate because you are probably wondering if I even have a hateful blog post. So, here is a type of music that makes me want to cut my ear off like Van Goh (however the hell you spell that). Anyways, his voice sucks, his beats suck, and his lyrics suck. Now your probably like, you are just a hater, but I would like for somebody to tell me a truely meaningful song with nice vocals. Now, the reason that I dont like his singing very much is because you cant really tell what he wants to be, and he keeps playing with your musical genre emotions, which is now a thing because I just created it so BAM. Back to the point, he sings like a wanna-be rapper, a 12 year old girl, and a 15 year old teenage pop star. None of these voices satisfy my ears, therefore I am no "beliber" or whatever those annoying fangirls say.

Led Zeplin

I love this band and I always will. They are one of my favorite legendary rock bands. The guitar solos are fenaminal, and so are the vocals. I love how his voice can get really high. The music just makes me feel so alive and I love it.

The Band

I love this band! Their sound is so unique and it made me open up to a whole different type of genre. I think Robby Robertson was a grade A pain in the ass though. He was so annoying about talking about how he didnt want to tour anymore and it just seemed like he thought that he ran the show. Anyways, this is the first time I have really ever heard rock and folk music combined and I absolutely loved it!

Imagine

This song is beautiful! The lyrics are absolutely amazing and heartwarming. Also John Lennon's voice is absolutely the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. The way that the instraments perfectly compliment his voice is so great. Everything about this song is just awesome and it almost makes me wonder whether I like the Beatles or John solo.

The Pajama Game

This play was fantastic! The actors were all really great and they were suprisingly entertaining. I thought that it was going to be just another boring, lame, high school play, but it was really funny and very well put together. The main thing I liked was the music. It was really catchy, and by the end of the play, they were forever stuck in my head. especially that Racing Against the Clock song. My favorite song from the play was the song were the two main charactors were singing to each other saying I love you or whatever (don't know the name of it). Anyways, I was in my room and it started to kind of play in my head. I thought to myself, were have I heard that song? And then it came to me. It was a bummer though because I wanted to buy it on Itunes.

Joni Mitchell

I think that Joni is absolutely amazing! That woman can sing! honestly, if she went ocapella I wouldn't even care because she is that good. Her voice is absolutely mesmorizing. It is as if her voice is an instrument alone. She has awesome range and it sounds like she is just playing around with notes even though she plans it. Also, I like how her song lyrics tell a story. She doesn't really care weather the songs are catchy or not. She pours her heart into these songs and that takes guts. For that, I respect her greatly.

Thrift Shop- Maclemore

Okay, I usually despise rap, but this song is the jam. The beat is bangin and Maclemore's voice is really cool. My friend plays it in her car a lot and it is just a really fun song to jam out to. We have some fun times listening to it. Also, the lyrics are really funny, they are about stuff he is getting from the thrift shop, and it just makes me laugh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QK8mJJJvaes

Let It Be

This is such a good song and I have been litening to it ever since i was a wee lad. Pauls voice is just so soothing and the piano is played perfectly. It is a song that I love to listen to when I fall assleep, and as you probably know by now, I love those type of songs.

Good People

I was listening to Jack Johnsons song Good people and it really got me thinking. He says "where'd all the good people go? I've been changing channels I don't see them on the TV shows" This is so true that it was all I could think about all week. We live in this society where your morals don't matter anymore. All that seems to matter is your image and reputation. It is a lot harder to find the true and genuine people anymore. The media keeps telling us girls that you need to be pretty, skinny, and rich to have a great life. Like Jack says when he is talking about not seeing them on the TV shows, there are shows like Jersey Shore where the people are just trashy and all they care about is partying and appearance. Why would we want our generation and generation to come to watch this type of stuff? We need true role models in our lives. Not the ones we see on television. The media is telling us to live in a materialistic world instead of focusing on what's real. Appearances wont last forever, but your character will. We all need to just take a step back and try to be a good person by gods standards, not society's. All I want people to get from this is are you truly a good person that tries to brightens everybody's day, or are you the person who is just thinking all day if you picked the right outfit or if your hair looks good. I know people won't read this, but I decided to blog about it because it is important to me and has been on my mind all week. But the song is really good and you should definitely check it out.

Remix Manifesto

This documentary was very interesting and it got me really thinking and I wrote like a whole page of notes on it. First, I would like to say that Girl Talk is super cool and what he does is amazing. I do feel like Warner Brothers needs to back off because they didn't create the song, so why should people ask them if it is okay to use it? However, it is a big controversy and I understand why people would Paton their works. If somebody tried to take my song and use it illegally and me not getting paid for it, I would be pretty darn pissed. But I would rather have people using my songs and loving them, than people not listening to them at all. But I believe that when an artist dies, their songs should be free game to anyone. The reason I feel this way is because the people are dead and they obviously cannot get paid anymore, and are not around to care or say anything. Also, their legacy can continue through remixes and covers, instead of their music just dying out. I have very mixed opinions on this subject. I guess for me it really matters what the circumstances are.

Classical music

I just wanted to rant about this genre of music. It is soo boring. For me, it is good for only one thing, putting me to sleep. I would really love to talk about this genre of music with somebody who enjoys it because I am not really sure why anyone would. To me, all of the songs sound the same and they are sooo long!! Also, there are no lyrics so you really have nothing to pay attention to and lyrics are what make a song unique. This is mainly why I think all of the songs sound the same.

Black Sabbath

This band is awesome! I already new about them because a few of their songs are on guitar hero. Iron man is a pretty cool song and it always reminds me of the movie iron man. I love the guitar solos in their songs and that is mainly what i luke about this band. The vocals are good as well. The only thing that i don't really love about them is the length of their songs. I just think they are a little bit too long and i like song that are usually 2 or 3 minutes long.
